www.gopherforum.com Once you are contacted by a potential client and meet with them to bid on their property, you arent done yet. Remember to always follow up. This applies to both commercial and residential lawn care customers. Kim asked I was just wondering after someone calls you for a lawn care estimate and you go out meet with them, and then submit a bid, do most of them let you know if you didnt get the job or just kinda blow you off. Tom answered A few things will probably happen 1. They will say something like Geez, that is higher than I thought it would be. At this point you can either haggle with the price or tell them, sorry, that is the price, and stick to your guns. 2. They will say something like when can you start. They agree to the price and want you to do it. 3. Or they say I will have to talk it over with my husband/wife. Nine times out of ten when someone says that, you probably will not get the bid. Now they will either call you back and tell you yes or no, or will not bother calling at all. I recommend that after a few days to give them a call up and ask them if they had any questions in regarding the bid. It helps get the ball rolling again. Kim then asked Okay how about commercial accounts, when they are excepting bids and say were not deciding until the middle of March. Should I call them back then or just hope to hear from them and if I didnt get it will they call and tell me. Or just let it go? Tom said If you havent heard anything after a while …

Tim has shared with us three new contracts including a lawn cutting contract, a full service lawn care maintenance and a snow plow contract. You can download them here www.gophergraphics.com I added a new link on the left side of the forum for our lawn care business forum member to submit books they have read. I also added a new business book of the month to our list. The book is Guerrilla Marketing Success Secrets by Jay Levinson. Our friend Tony submitted this great marketing idea to the forum. He prints out stickers that include your business logo and then puts them on buckets of ice melt. He suggests handing these buckets out to your current customer base to help promote your snow removal services or you could use them as a marketing tool to hand out to homeowners in your area who you would like to service with snow removal and lawn care services next spring. If you live in a warmer climate you could also offer potted plants instead of ice melt. Review the post here www.gophergraphics.com Our lawn care forum member Tim suggested buying poinsettia plants in bulk and handing them out to your current customers along with a holiday card. You could also give these out to potential clients you would …

runner23 asked: I have about 10 to 15 hours a week to work on my business which is why it has to be small. How much would it cost? How long will it take? How can I hire people t o do the work. Again this is going to be small so at first maybe only 10 to 20 jobs a week and then eventually move up from there. Since it is Winter I have about 4 months to start this. Where could I get supplies. What supplies are necessary. Thanks.

LawnCareBusiness asked:
www.StartALawnCareBusiness.com It’s autumn, leaves are falling, and there is a lot of money to be made raking leaves for your customers. I am going to show you a few quick tips to make your jobs easier. When you have a big leaf job I have always found the easiest way to do it is to windrow the leaves using a lawn mower or a leaf blower. Today, I’m not mowing the grass. So, I am going to use my backpack leaf blower. For a good leaf raking tarp use a thick tarp with metal grommets. Take the rope and weave it into the grommets. When the rope is through the grommets it is time to rake the leaves onto the tarp. Now the leaves are windblown into a nice neat pile they can be raked onto the tarp with a regular leaf rake. If you are doing heavy work like twigs or leaves that are wet from a rain, you can use a landscape rake. Landscape rakes can cost as much as $60. They are made out of aluminum and designed for rocks and mulch but it will do great for heavy, wet leaves. Since it’s dry today I am going to use a regular plastic rake. Once you have all the leaves onto the tarp you can use the rope to fold up the tarp and help contain the leaves. That way, you can haul them off without them blowing all over the place. Today, all we have to do is haul the leaves just up to the wood. This will save us a lot of trouble. It will save gas, dump fees, and it is much easier. Once you are at your dump site it is as easy as releasing two grommets and walking the tarp over to dump all the …
