BUT they know what they are doing and have done this thousands of times. Just go inside and get a glass of water ( preferably right from the tap... ice cold water is bad after coming in after that hot work) and go back to it. If you spill gasoline on the exchaust (or any other hot surface) you risk igniting it. EDIT: According to Briggs & Stratton (lawn mower manufacturer)... To refuel, always disconnect spark plug wire and let engine cool two minutes. Gasoline spilled on hot engine could cause flash fire. I wouldn’t try it.
