Lawn mower pull cord stuck?

tiffany asked:
I got a lawn mower from a friend who had bought it brand new and used it maybe 6 times last summer. In order to get it into the car I had to detach the bar handle and lay it ontop of the mower. While doing this the cord wrapped nearly completely inside the housing. When we tried to put the handle back on, the pull cord refused to budge. Any ideas? My husband is going to take a look but I was wondering if anyone experienced had some insight so the mower doesn’t end up broken and my husband doesn’t lose an arm.

The top and wrap on the pully and unwind it loose it loose it loose it loose it loose it is very rare that cord will trun and unwind it loose it is tangled inside the pully and the pully and the pully and wrap on the cord will come out now if the fly wheel will come out now if you have to remove the handle.

Sounds like the spring inside that recoils the cord broke or came off. Hope your husband is mechanically incline cause spring can be a pain….. If not, take to your local lawn mower shop. Cheaper than buying new one.
GOOD LUCK
