Lawn mower stopped working?

My lawnmower just shut off on me yesterday after mowing the grass for about 15 mins, i couldnt get it to fire back up, i changed the spark plug, washed the air filter changed the gasoline and still nothing, i added oil to it also but the oil was 10w30 i was told it wouldnt matter but i think i added more than i supposed to add(18 oz.) and oil was everywhere, so today i took the mower apart piece by piece and whiped it down after drainging all the gas and oil, I went to sears and bought a tune up kit, which gave my 18 oz. of synthentic oil, a new air filter, new spark plug, and fuel stablizer. I put it back together and filled the gas and oil up and pulled the cord a couple times and it sounds like it wants to start but it doesnt and then if i primer it and try it throws a little bit of white smoke and backfires it sounds like… this lawn mower is a craftmans 2004 7.0 self prepelled lawn mower and the local places want 60$ to tell me whats wrong and its 2 week wait any advice?? thank u

The carb was so stretched apart it was the carb was the throttle cable the carb was the spring by the throttle cable the spring by the spring by the throttle cable the spring by the throttle cable the spring by.

The key sheared it is made of aluminum and is designed to the magneto in time miketyson26.

The pull start it and keep cleaning the pull start it happen plenty of times.

hmmmm ? pull plug and try to crank make sure you got fire-check plug to make sure its wet with gas not oil-check throttle cable to make sure it engaged to start-agree with other member-did you hit something-might be out of time or filter in tank clogged

To me it sounds like you ran out of oil and you burned up the engine…..But to make sure take it to a lawn mower shop and have them check it out cost is about $60.00

When it quit on you was it because you hit something? Could be that the flywheel key is sheared.
